Jean McCollisterI played frisbee without dogs as a kid growing up in America. I started playing recreationally with my border collie mix Lyra in 2004, when she was about a year old. She loves to chase balls, sticks, pine cones, various toys, frisbees, basically anything you throw for her. And when she catches them she loves to make really high leaps in the air.
In early 2007 I started to take up the sport of dogfrisbee more seriously, and since then I've been to several seminars with internationally known experts such as Karin Actun, Sabine Bruns, Marcus Wolff, and Melissa Heeter. I've also competed in several European countries, both with Lyra, who is now five, as well as with my daughter's three-year-old Australian Shepherd Olivia, with excellent results.
At my first competition, at Stromovka Park in Prague in July of 2007, I won both events I entered with Lyra. A little more than a year later, at the 2008 European Championship, I qualified for the USDDN World Finals with Lyra in freestyle and with Oli in Super Pro Toss & Fetch. Video from European Championship: Thanks to the overwhelming generosity and support of the Slovenian dog sport community, Lyra and I were able to travel to Cartersville, Georgia, to take part in the competition there, where we were the highest placed European team in freestyle, finishing 19th of 37. Video of coming home from USDDN World Finals:
In addition to frisbee I also do agility with the dogs. Most of all we enjoy going for long walks in the Karst countryside, where we live, and in the Slovenian Alps. Some of our competition results:
